You may not have had to format a resume in a while, or even ever. Look at this list down below and see if there is anything you can do to fix your resume and make it better.
- One Resume Only
Each position you apply for is different, even if they are under the same role. If you send out the same resume to various jobs, then it may not be as impactful as suiting it to each individual hiring manager. You can reword the summary or your characteristics to what the job description states.
- Using an Objective
You do not have to use an objective anymore to get a job. Instead of using an objective, summarize what you are good at and what you have succeeded in.
- Not Specifying Certain Things
Be sure to get very particular about what you have done and succeeded in. Most nursing applicants will have comparable things, so you need to identify what makes you different.
- Not Using Keywords
Keywords are an important thing that employers look for nowadays. Most of them use special programs that are designed to seek out keywords that applicants are using.
- Inaccurately Putting Down Credentials
There is a particular way that nursing credentials must be listed. You can find them through The American Nurses Credentialing Center.
- Gaps That Are Not Noted
Being unemployed for a long segment of time will make any employer curious as to what happened. You can either discuss these gaps on the resume or in the cover letter, you submit with the resume.
- Immature Resumes
It can be very noticeable to some that you have not formatted a resume before, especially if you use unprofessional emails or words to describe your work.
- Format is Difficult to Understand
An unclear format will make you much less likely to get a job, or even be considered for it. Make sure that your formatting is clear and concise, and separated appropriately.
These mistakes can be the key to your success or the key to your failure. If you see any of these mistakes in your resume, it is time to fix it.
