As medical professionals, we globally, no matter your letters of your experience or expertise all share a common ailment – stress. So, what does all of this have to do with our endless cup of coffee, the mid-shift need for sugar, irritability we tend to have at some point in our day brief or long, and the craving for something to relax us when our shift is over? It’s a lack of a high peak in our cortisol levels.
Our body repairs while we sleep but something happens to people between 2 and 4 am, a huge increase in cortisol levels. Medical professionals do not have the highest high during this time period as other people do. That lack of a huge increase to provide a steady decline all day is a source of many of the symptoms we face daily.
