When it comes to Valentine’s Day, love is fixated on romantic relationships. Even though love comes in many forms, the love for your family, your friends, and your pets. Nurses who shower their patients with care and love every day, deserve extra recognition and appreciation on this holiday. If you have a nurse or other caregiver in your life, show them how much you love them. Even though you love your family, as you get older, they are not always able to take care of you. Life and busy schedules get in the way, making nurses our extended family. Especially during those times of need when we feel very vulnerable. 

Here are the reasons why nurses deserve more love from everybody:

1. They Make Sure You’re Taken Care Of

This statement can refer to their patients, their spouse, their children, pretty much everyone in their lives. Most of them are caregivers 24/7 in some way, which can be absolutely exhausting. With a natural tendency to take care of others and have compassion, nurses are a valuable part of society. Without them, we probably wouldn’t be here for one reason or another. 

2. They Make Your Recovery Special

If they know you have a birthday or special celebration coming up, oftentimes they will hang decorations in your room or some will even sing to you. Nurses know that spending important life events in a hospital can be very sad and unsettling, so they will do their best to cheer you up despite your current situation. This is especially true for children who fixate even more on milestones and birthdays. 

3. They Care About You

Nurses want you to get better, it is not only their job but their personal wish. No one wants to see another human in pain or suffering. And they will do what they can to lift your spirits and keep you moving on a path towards recovery. Whether they are listening to you talk about your children or grandchildren, they care about their patients. If you’re lucky, they may even get you your preferred flavor of jello. 

4. They Aren’t Phased By Unsightly Things

The average person is very unsettled by the sight of blood and other bodily fluids. But nurses are patient and strong-minded enough to look past the most unsettling sights to treat their patients. Nurses can be changing dirty bandages or even catheters without flinching. That is a skill to be proud of as most people are extremely squeamish about the sight of blood. 

5. They Are Your Biggest Fan

Since your family and friends are unable to be at the hospital at all times due to work and other life commitments, your nurse becomes your family. They are almost always there and will support you emotionally and physically through your healing process. Sometimes nurses may even listen to you more than your own family. If you are wanting to give up or feel hopeless, you have someone in your corner wanting you to get better. 

Valentine’s Day is another holiday to show appreciation but really it is a reminder to be grateful for the people you have in your life and the love you receive from them. Showing gratitude towards others especially during holidays will make their work more meaningful and your day as well.
